What qualifications can I earn in the insurance industry?

Foundation Insurance Test

The Foundation Insurance Test (FIT) is an introductory-level qualification that provides the knowledge and understanding of the basic insurance products, principles and practice within the insurance profession.

With a recommended study time of 40 hours per unit, the FIT comprises one core unit.

The qualification is particularly suitable if you’re new to the sector, or in an associated profession or support role where you need to demonstrate a basic understanding of general insurance.

London Market Insurance

London Market Insurance Essentials (LM1) provides an essential grounding in the workings of the London insurance market. London Market Insurance Principles and Practices (LM2) provides a broader understanding of insurance process and practice across the London market.

With a recommended study time of 40-60 hours per unit, the Award in London Market Insurance comprises two core units. This award is recognised by the FCA as an appropriate qualification for the regulated activity of advising on syndicate participation at Lloyd’s.

Certificate

The Certificate in Insurance (Cert CII) is a core qualification for insurance professionals working across all sectors of insurance. 

It provides a fundamental grounding of the key insurance principles, disciplines, products and markets, including the regulatory environment, key disciplines of underwriting and claims, in addition to popular products such as motor, household, healthcare and packaged commercial insurances.

The certificate develops the knowledge and confidence needed as you begin to specialise your studies according to your ambitions and career requirements.

Diploma

The Diploma in Insurance (Dip CII) is a technical qualification for insurance staff working across all sectors of the industry, and is the progression from the Cert CII. This diploma will provide you with a firm understanding of insurance fundamentals and will enable you to build towards advance technical knowledge.

With a recommended study time of 80 - 120 hours per unit, it's recommended that you the Certificate in Insurance or equivalent, before studying for the diploma.

Advanced Diploma

The Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) is a professional qualification providing an enhanced understanding of insurance practice. It demonstrates comprehensive assessment of market knowledge and understanding.

It's recommend that you complete the diploma in insurance (or equivalent) prior to studying for the advanced diploma.

Joining the community of proven insurance professionals, it is evidence of your purpose, commitment and ability. Members who hold the Advanced Diploma in insurance and have at least five years’ sector experience are eligible to apply for chartered status.
